Starts Sometimes Locks Other Times

I'm assuming this is a software issue, although I am not 100% certain. Sometimes when I boot up my computer it freezes at 'Starting Enterprise Volume Management System' I just hit the reset button and carry on. Sometimes it takes a few tries, but, ultimately it still boots into linux. Anyone have any idea as to why it would do this ? I'm using Ubuntu 5.04.

what does /var/log/messages tell you - and also try

dmesg

to get your booting log up
