Starting X Automatically

Is there a way I can change my startup routine to start X automatically instead of starting with the command prompt?

Thanks In Advvance

Edit your inittab file in /etc, you should find the line init:3:defaultinit something like that, change the 3 to a 5.

first... what distro do you have? the runlevel determines how your computer will start up, and sometimes it changes from distro to distro. for example, the runlevel for graphical login on suse is 3, and the runlevel for command prompt is 2. check your manual to make sure first. a runlevel of 5 on some distros will give you a run away level 9 error.
