Hi spindles, thanks for your interest (By the way, my name is Maxei not Maxel).
I have run
#faxsetup and, except for a message like
"Warning: /bin/egetty does not exist or is not an executable program" the rest was smooth. It seems that this freaking warning message keeps always coming up since years ago (I checked in the web other posts) and aparently has no bad effect in seting hylafax (it also shows the lack of care of the developers- Oh my! this program is as convoluted and confused as their f**g brains! ). That damned egetty nobody knows what the $$$$ is it by the way.
And yes, my modem seems to have been configured during that time (
faxsetup invoked
faxaddmodem . I latter check the file
/etc/inittab and confirmed that a line was added like this:
# t0:23:respawn:/usr/sbin/faxgetty ttyS0 . Of course, I changed the last device to
ttyS4 which is where my modem is.
So, when iI type the comand :
$/usr/sbin/hylafax start I get:
/usr/sbin/hylafax: line 143:kill6045) - operation not permited
/usr/sbin/hylafax: line 143:kill6055) - operation not permited
HylaFAX: faxq hfaxd (without old protocol & without SNPP support
I have no idea of what is that.
If I type the comand :
$/usr/sbin/hfaxd I get the prompt $ in the next line. If the phone rings, the modem doesnot pick the signal up, so actually i cannot send nor receive faxes. I have spent countless hours trying to fish out any decent information. Nothing.
It is incredible. Linux is supposed to be a modern distro and look at this! I dusted out my old 486 Hz computer runing windows 3.1, installed the Delrina software (old as 10 years ago!) contained in two floppies (it took me less than 5 minutes to install it, and another 5 minutes to connect my external modem and WHAAAMMM on Linux (en plein dans la gueule!): I was receiving faxes right away!!! Fuck Hylafax! Fuck Capisuite!
