Depends on the program, when do you want to start it?
At boot, when the window manager starts?
Which distribution, which window manager?

Kind regards

Hi,

Take a look at
http://www.fedorafaq.org/basics/#startonboot
http://linux.about.com/library/gnome/blgnome8n18c.htm
Please be adviced, that you can not start a GUI app at boot.
So it all depends what you want to start

Kind regards
