Star Office
I've just installed Star Office 5.2 from my old(er) SuSe Linux 7.3 CDs
It is in /root/office52. It starts with a script soffice. Can anyone tell me how to make it available to all users on my home computer? When I click on the directory /root/office52 right click then properties, under local net sharing it says error running filesharelist check if installed or in $PATH or /usr/sbin. I wanted Star Office because i know it can read my Excel files, which Open Office can't. I changed the group to users, but that didn't help. Any tips? |
Which version of Excel? I have found that OpenOffice can open and save all versions of MS Office up to and including MS Office XP.

Excel 97

I have always found that OpenOffice (esp. the latest version) has not had this problem. Which was the last version you tried?

Well, I just started up the computer, with my Win CD in the CDRW drive, and lo and behold, open office read it.
Every other time I tried it failed to recognize the files. Linux rules! It's just quantum! |
OpenOffice - well worth the price of a download!! ;)
