Star Off Install

When I attempt to install the custom (choosing only star "Word") or the minimum pkg. in /home/off52, the following msg appears:
"Not enough disk space on selected drive. Please choose another drive."
I know there is enough room, but how do I choose (or what do I choose for) another drive? Please bear with me; I'm very new. :)

Thanks for any help,
DG

First of all, try installing to somewhere like /usr/share/off52. You should do this as root because an ordinary user will not have write access to this directory. The /usr/share directory is normally where all the non-essential programs are kept (like XMMS - the Linux WinAmp).

Before we go on though, a few questions:
  • How many harddisks do you physically have in your system (both IDE and SCSI) and how big are they?

Do you know how your partitions are set up? - If not, then log into a terminal session (something that looks like DOS) and type cp /etc/fstab > ~/Desktop/myfstab.txt Make sure that you do type the squigly and that the 'D' in Desktop is CAPITAL (unlike Windows, the files/directories 'desktop' and 'Desktop' are different). This copies a file to your desktop. Post it here.

Re: Star Install

Hey, thanks for the info. I did log in as root to install Star. I can't print my log now as the machine is in my car going for a little trip (to the dump? - no, to school!), but when it's back here later tonight I'll do that and post it.
I've installed to boot up in shell, not Gnome - although I spend most of my time in Gnome. I was told that was the better way to set up the machine.
later,
DG

Re: Star

I've entered the code exactly as you wrote and this is what appears: "No such file or directory" However, I will try to install in /usr/share.

Thanks,
DG
