ssh-keygen run time

How long should it take to run ssh-keygen?

Its been going for 20 min or so, and there is a ">" prompt.

I am running it in debian on a AMD K-2 450 w/ 64 Mb of RAM

What command did you issue? Does it end with a backslash? It appears to be waiting for input or more arguments. In any case, it shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes even on a slow system.
