ssh dies

My linux server runs ssh.

OpenSSH_3.4p1 Debian 1:3.4p1-1.woody.3, SSH protocols 1.5/2.0, OpenSSL 0x0090603f

if i connect to the box using putty 0.58

The session "freezes" (even while typing commands, but never while running "busy" apps like IPTRAF) and I have to reconnect... putty does not do this on all my other servers...

After some time putty errors, with some connection error........!!!!!

kernel = 2.4.22

Help me PLZ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dodgy switch port, bad cable, NIC fault or driver bug?

Check /var/log/messages for suspicious eth messages:
cat /var/log/messages | grep eth
gunzip -c /var/log/messages.1 | grep eth
gunzip -c /var/log/messages.2 | grep eth

Swap the network card for one known to be working and test.
