ssh connection refused - error with ncurses when loading sshd

Can anyone help, for some reason I cannot ssh into my Linux box anymore, i get the error when using putty connection refused.
when attempting to load sshd I get an error due to some missing ncurses libraries.

Error while loading shared libraries: libncurses.so.4: cannot open shared object file:no such file or directory.
Error while loading shared libraries: libpam.so.0: cannot open shared object file:no such file or directory.

I can only find libncurses.so.5

Sounds like my libraries have gone missing, this has been working fine for 2 years and suddenly I have this issue that has left me quite confused.

I am using Slackware 9

Odd, I don't know why sshd would need ncurses as mine doesn't use that at all. Your libpam.so.0 should be in /lib. Have you checked there? A couple more questions:

1. Has anyone updated/removed any packages?
2. Check your auth.log and see who has logged in the past couple of days.
3. Any other binaries and config files been modified recently?
