Squirrelmail problem

hi all,
i have configured CyrusIMAP to work with squirrel mail. ours is a lan with 11 pcs. its connected to net through proxy.
we are successful in creating mailboxes for the users. the users can login and edit their account. the problem we have is how to address a user. we tried to send a mail to a person using both domain names and ips.
for example to send a mail to a user abhi,
we gave abhi@abc.cyrus.server.in (name of the server)
we also tried abhi@111.111.111.11 (ip of the server)
but the user abhi hasn't recieved any mails.
what am i supposed to do? and what has gone wrong.

Regards
Bharath
