SquirrelMail plugins question
 

Hello,everyone. :)

Background information:I have installed SquirrelMail (1.4.2) on my Linux server and it works great.However,I would like to use some Calendar like plugins in order to record what I am going to do.The calendar plugins does the trick but it can't record more than 1 incident.

Questions:

1.Would you guys give me some suggestions on which plugins should I install?It has the functions like recording to-do information (more than 1 incident) concurrently.

2.By the way,I have a quota problem.Till now,my webmail system doesn't have a quota indicator like hotmail.The reason is that I installed WU POP3 IMAP software.And it doesn't support quota.What can I do to add a quota indicator on my webmail system without changing too much on my server?

However,my quota question has not been fixed.Well,I use WU-IMAP as my POP and IMAP server.I don't know how to add quota support to this software in order to work well with my quota plugins in squirrelmail.

Any suggestions are most appreciated! :D

There may be several ways to do it. One thing to ponder, you will make the squirrelmail plugin redundant I do believe, however it may serve as a graphical indicator, not sure as I have not seen it.

So you need to setup quota on the filesize in the mail folder. Quota is handled normally on a per user, per file system basis. If this is for mail only then you would be best to have a partition for the mail folder and setup that partitions quota in /etc/fstab.


The question is somewhat confusing as stated in your questions. You are refering to imap and pop which quota would not have any thing to do with as they only allow mail retrieval. The SMTP server is what needs the quota. So you may want to check on the mailserver you use to see if there is a quota method best for it.


The more I think about it, It just sounds like the squirrel mail pluggin is broke. Quota should be, as I see it a restriction on how much mail you are allowed to have in your mailbox. Which is beyond the users control, it just fills up if you don't delete it. What is it supposed to limit?

Yup,I want to set up a quota indicator in my web-mail in order to show how much space they used up in their mailbox.The mail is stored in the user's folder.I can't remember the path,but it sounds like "/var/spool/mail/user" folder.What makes me confused is that if I follow the instruction from Squirrelmail plugins page,it claims that I have to install a IMAP server which has quota function.

It says:
equires: SquirrelMail 1.1 or above and an IMAP server with quota enabled

So,what should I do? :confused:

Maybe the plugin uses the imap service to retrieve the mail, and also obtain the quota information. The thing is a quota would most likely refer to the total amount of disk space allowed to be used by each user. This would be the amount of mail that is put into the mail folder, which is done by someone sending you mail. However with imap you can normally open any folder that is in there, create folders and move mail to them. So I guess it makes sense, but the smtp server is the one that is putting incoming mail into the mailbox.

There is a way to use email without smtp, which involves imap or pop, and I think this is what your looking for.

I don't really know what squirrelmail needs or if this is going to work with it, but you should be able to check the requirements of the version of the plugin or squirrelmail you have on the squirrelmail site to see what server will work.

I'm not sure how the cyrus server will interact with smtp. It is using a private area for mail.
