Squirrelmail change HTML editor spell check to UK English

Hi

I'm using Squirrelmail 1.4.13, and have enabled HTML email composition using the html_mail plugin. Its spell checker is American English, and I would like to change it to UK English.

According to the config file of the html_mail plugin, Aspell is configured as the spell checker.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

Apparently you have the English dictionary installed with Aspell. That dictionary contains American, Canadian, and British dictionaries.

Aspell reads your LANG environment variable to determine which dictionary to use. My LANG variable looks like this:
Quote:
echo $LANG
en_US.UTF-8
So, if you change your LANG variable to en_GB.UTF-8, Aspell should use the Brithis spelling.

Quote:
export LANG=en_GB.UTF-8
You could also add your dictionary preference to ~/.aspell, though I'm not sure what the syntax is to make such an entry. You can read more about it here: http://aspell.net/man-html/The-Options.html#The-Options.

Thanks bigrigdriver for the suggestion. I've checked $LANG and it is en_GB.UTF-8.

I've also been reading up on the link you sent, and there is a bit that I cannot understand:

"If the lang option is not explicitly set its value will be based on the LC_MESSAGES locale. This locale is generally taken from the LC_MESSAGES environment variable or the LANG environment variable if LC_MESSAGES is not set. However, if Aspell is being used as a library from within another program which already explicitly set the locale then it will use the locale of the library rather than the environment variables. If Aspell cannot determine the language from the LC_MESSAGES locale than it will default to en_US."

Any help is appreciated.
