I think I understand your question better now, and yes the database file, and everything for that matter that is in the squidguard directory is owned by the squid user. I also changed the group ownership to squid just to make sure but squid is still not filtering out any websites.

I don't think the problem is in my squidGuard.conf file because it's so simple (pass !any) so I have a feeling that the issue might be ion my squid .conf file. I'm going to focus my efforts there and hopefully I can find the issue.

hi
try this

go into blacklists
and in sub directories like PORN
open it
here change owner ship to SQUID of all files like urls.db
change it in all ur directories


eg. mine is given bellow

-rwxr-xr-x 1 squid root 11370712 Mar 30 10:23 domains
-rwxr-xr-x 1 squid root 28958720 Mar 30 10:23 domains.db
-rwxr-xr-x 1 squid root 5186832 Mar 30 10:23 urls
-rwxr-xr-x 1 squid root 13594624 Mar 30 10:23 urls.db

Did you come right with your squidguard?

I've been playing around with squidguard the whole day and got the basics working.

As a matter of interest:
If I redirect blocked sites to another url,
Code:
   default {
        pass none
        redirect http://www.google.co.za
    }
squidguard works. If I try to access a blocked site, I get redirected to google, but with no pics loaded.

If I redirect blocked sites to a custom page on the local pc
Code:
   default {
        pass none
        redirect file:///var/lib/squidGuard/Denied.html
    }
squidguard doesn't block it.
