Squid Won't Start

Hello,

I am running Suse 9.1 and am trying to get Squid working. When I try to start it, it gives the following message:
Code:
/etc/init.d/squid restart
Shutting down WWW-proxy squid - Warning: squid not running ! done
Starting WWW-proxy squid (/var/cache/squid)/etc/init.d/squid: line 135: 4467 Aborted $SQUID_BIN -z -F >/dev/null 2>&1
 - Could not create cache_dir !
                                                                     failed
I tried to post my squid.conf thinking that would help, but it said my post was too long and I had to shorten it. Sorry!

I searched google for "Could not create cache_dir !" but all I got was foriegn sites.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!
Jeremy

Something in the install didn't go right. It should have created those dir for you. I can remember but try squid -k or -z I don't remember the exact commands to make this work, but if no one else stops by I can go back though my notes. I have had the same problem as you before.

Thanks for the help. That got me the info I needed to get squid running.

I did a squid -k reconfigure and it gave me an error about the conf file. I had httped instead of httpd; stupid typos! I changed that and I also created the squid group and squid then started successfully.

Thanks!
