squid stable 5 on redhat 9..very slow


My squid stable 2.5 is very slow on redhat 9...kernel 2.4
Redhat is installed on a primary slave 10 Go (slow HD..5000t/mn)
Pentium 4, 256 DDR
Config proxy : swap cach mem 70 Mo.
Cache disk:100 Mo

With only one client, I need 1 mn to get a page. The client is one XPPro..P4 2,5 Ghz 256Mo DDR

Someone can help me....

decrease ur cache_mem to 16
increase ur disk cache to 300 mb or more..
