squid problem...


hello all
i need help
i have just downloaded squid, then unarchive and then ./configure, make and make install
after this /usr/local/squid/sbin/squid -z and it gives the following problem:
FATAL: Could not determine fully qualified hostname. Please set 'visible_hostname'
Squid Cache (Version 2.5.STABLE3): Terminated abnormally.
CPU Usage: 0.010 seconds = 0.010 user + 0.000 sys
Maximum Resident Size: 0 KB
Page faults with physical i/o: 282
Aborted

have you edited squid.conf to your preferences?

Seems like your did not configure your host to use fully qualified domain name. This should be done while configure your host. Maybe you could use command
# netconfig
to configure it. You also could set your.server.name under 'visible_hostname' option in squid.conf

Had same problem, verify your /etc/hosts file, make sure that your server is listed correctly, i.e.:
10.10.10.10 myserver.domain.xxx alias1

edit squid.conf and insert this line
'visible_hostname yourhostname'
