squid fails to start on RHEL4

Im using squid-2.5.STABLE6-3 on a RHEL4 machine.
The machine has two network cards
eth1-x.x.x.x ( public ip )

I can ping eth0 and eth1 but I cannot ping the DNS Servers of my ISP

#route -n UG 0 0 0 eth0 UG 0 0 0 eth0 U 0 0 0 eth1 U 0 0 0 eth0 U 0 0 0 eth1 UG 0 0 0 eth0 UG 0 0 0 eth1

I get the following error when I do

#etc/rc.d/init.d/squid start
Starting squid: /etc/rc.d/init.d/squid: line 53: 8296 Aborted $SQUID $SQUID_OPTS >>/var/log/squid/squid.out 2>&1

Please advise..its urgent
