SQUID cache_peer query

Hello all,

I just want to know, how's the behavior of a squid server which IP is proxied.

This is the senario, I have a connection from ISP, they given me a block of IP which cannot connect directly to the internet meaning I have to define there proxy server in order for me to go out to the net.

I need to install my own cache/proxy server, which i already did with "cache_peer proxy.host.domain parent 8080 default" and it is working. I always check the access log and most of the time it reports TCP_MISS, very rare the TCP_HIT or TCP_MEM_HIT, but as i check the harddisk capacity it is growing (df -h)

My question since i configure my cache with parent cache, Is my cache/proxy always consult the parent cache? Can my cache/proxy store and fetch object independently?

Please enlighten me.

Thank you very much,

Wennie
