Question Splitting house set into gapless tracks

I need to do actually two things. The first one is, as the title says, split a very long house set (say 5 hours) into tracks, but I want them gapless. The set is in mp3 format, which as far as I know doesn't support gapless tracks. So I need to know in what format to convert the split tracks and what options to use with ffmpeg.

The second thing I need to do is to burn those tracks on a CDDA, again gapless. Actually I will be more happy to tell the burning software to a burn a whole .mp3 file that exactly fits the disc (1:20:00) and then by using some TOC file to refer to the tracks by their offsets, thus eliminating any distortions or losing of information.

gap/gapless is little to do with the MP3 file / format and more to do with the way your media player handles multiple files. Many players can be set to seamlessly play multiple MP3 files or even do things like crossfade between two tracks.

As regards an audio CD, if you're burning it as an audio CD to play on normal equipment you should be able to set the gap at the start of each track, the standard is 2 seconds so setting it to 0 would make playback gapless.

From memory, the book spec doesn't allow you to change the 2 second gap at the start of the first track, but that's not really going to interrupt your playback.
