SPAM Filtering

I am looking to set up a more advanced spam filter than the one currently Incorporated into thunderbird and having been reading on the Internet I have read about numerous ways to implement good spam protection. I now know what I want but I don't know how to do it, so first I will outline my situation then what I would like and if you can would you advise me on what to do.
My Scenario:
  • I have a POP e-mail address
  • I receive large amounts of spam but need to keep my e-mail address
  • I have webmin and I would like to use it
  • All of my email will be redirected to my own computer
  • I have a list of addresses in thunderbird which are not spam that I would like to export
  • I also have a lot of spam stored for training if needed.
What I would like:
  • A spam filter (Sendmail looks most applicable) that will scan my mail using a variety of methods including checking on-line databases and assigns mail a score
  • What is probably spam gets an e-mail sent to the sender to ask if it is legitimate and if it is the e-mail will be resent and the e-mail address will be white flagged (i cant remember the name for this
  • The e-mail can then be sent to my thunderbird mail box

Thanks for reading

Could I suggest that you don't do this in your setup? Responding to a spam mail just confirms that your email address exists and you will end up being flooded.

Probably better to put such mail into a seperate directory that you can peruse/allow/destroy at your leisure.
