spamassasin I think works. Of course when I get spam I just 'bounce' it back. Makes them think the address is bad.

Hey, it works for me.

doesn't spammassin have to be built into something like qmail?

will it be able to work in conjunction locally with an email client like say evolution?

Not really sure. I have never used it before. I think it works with whatever though. Try www.google.com/linux and search for spamassasin and evolution. If you see people tring to set it up, then it may work with evolution.

I have read that it works pretty good. Since I just bounce them back, I don't use it anyway.

Oh, don't give your e-mail address to yahoo. I signed up for a junk box and got e-mails right after from people I never heard of. Apparently they sell addresses.

Hope this helps. Don't really know how to set it up though. Sorry.

Later

spamassassin does work with evolution, just add a filter in evo that pipes to mail to spamassassin -t and if the returncode != 0 , the mail is spam and you can process it.

spamassin works on our mail server not my workstation.

it does filter work-mails well but it doesn't filter my personal account which i collect from an external source.

does bouncing them back work for you? the spams i recieve have forged mail addresses and headers.

the only way i found to combat them was to send them to www.spamcop.net
