sowftware in this world

hi everybody
I am new on the world of linux, and I am facing this questions.
Why there are much sowftware in windows than in linux?

for instance, we don't find a lot of converters in linux.
what make me abandon windows at the expense of linux?

before you judge me,I love this system very much and I would lik to use it as my main system,I hop so with your help please.

Converters for what exactly? There's tons of filetype conversions available in linux.

I would argue that there's more software available for linux. Some of it is less polished in terms of user interface, but I can do much more with my Debian box than with my Windows box.

you can't imagine my happiness of your answer,it semes to me that you are an expert of this system (linux),I have tried linux for two years and some how I always back to windows for the same reason wich is the software maybe I need to make more effort with linux.

If you post what exactly you're trying to do, someone can help post some possible solutions. That's what these forums are for.

But in terms of sheer volume of software, for example, Debian has more than 20,000 packages.

It's really obvious: more people use Windows. According to sites that keep track of what OSes visitors use (usually web development sites, which I think Linux users are more likely to visit than most other sites), about 1 to 5% of visitors use Linux.

But actually, in sheer volume of software, Linux might have more than Windows. It's just that many of these are not widely known, not very polished, and tend to be more like system utilities.
