Question source code install problems

I've tried to install 5 different apps and after ./configure, there has been no make file created. I've read all the install & readme files (they are all the same) & read install directions in the forums. ./configure is a no brainer, except for me. Can someone lead me in the right direction?

Just to make sure do you mean Makefile?
What apps are you working with?
Post some links to them.
Is there any errors at the end of ./configure?

I do believe I have found the problem. I looked in the config.log (I've looked before but it was greek to me.) A number of pkgs were not installed.
I'm running into the some issue trying to install .rpm pkgs. Why Unbuntu doesn't support this stuff or at least have a pkg to install that will is beyond me.

Are you trying to install rpms on Ubuntu? Ubuntu uses Debian packages (deb) and not rpm by default. RPM support is there to a certain level, but thats not Ubuntus native packaging system.
