soundcard Woes (Shouldn't be too hard for you vets)

Pretty simple problem, I have Ubuntu and my computer has a built in sound card, but I don't want to use that I want to use my soundblaster. The integrated soundcard is disabled in the bios.

My Ubuntu keeps wanting to use the built in sound card for everything. Some programs have sound, such as XMMS, but ONLY if I go in an manually change it in each program, but some programs (such as ZSNES, and Chromium) don't have an option to do so. In addition, Ubuntu has a system sound scheme but you wouldn't notice on my PC. How do I make my Soundblaster the default?

Happened to me too, with my SB Live. Took forever to figure it out, and one of the problems was I couldn't figure out how to use alsa.

Check and post your modules.conf

Basically, switch the entries for sound-card-0 and sound-card-1 around so the sound-card-0 is your sb.

Assuming of course, you are running alsa

Other options include rmmod the onboard sound module, and modprobe up the sb module.

Cool
