Sound working but not working in Redhat 9.0

Hey all, first time posting.

I have a question. I just setup Redhat 9.0 on my system. I have an Asus A7N8X Deluxe and I'm using the onboard sound. I did the sound card detection and it detected it fine and played the test sounds perfect. But when I try to play a cd, no sound comes out. I tried looking in the sound options but all the volumes seem right, and if the test sound played fine I figured the cd should play fine also.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

Are you sure you have an audio cable connected from your cdrom to your motherboard?

More importantly, do you have the RIGHT cable conected from the cd-rom to the soundcard? I had the same problem until I figured out that I should've used the analog cable instead of the digital one.

ah hah! Thank you. I forgot all about that. Another quick question, if I were to rip the songs from the cd, would I need to hook up that cable?
