Sound Volume Won't Adjust in KDE 3.0.1
Hello all,
I am currently using KDE 3.0.1 on the latest version of YDL on an iBook. There is something very strange going on with my sound. Whenever I launch KDE (by using startx from the command line, since I boot using runlevel 3), my sound works (meaning that I actually HAVE sound), but it won't respond to me adjusting my volume. It is, in fact, extremely loud and there is no way to mute it. What makes this even stranger is that if I log out of KDE back into the CL and then do a startx again, the sound responds perfectly fine to volume adjustments. I don't know about anybody else, but it is quite cumbersome to have to log in, out, and back in again to KDE to get my sound to adjust to volume changes. Does anybody have any ideas on this one? :Pengy: TIA |
Have a look to see what processes are running before and after you use X.
KDE will start something but not turn it off completely. I found I needed to start the arts server in level 3 before KDE did, to get control of it's options. |
Alright, I'll have to try that. Is the command for the arts server 'artsd'?

Yes,
once KDE has started, you can get the command line switches from ps -ax |
