Sound switches ON and OFF
Hi
I recently installed Linux - fedora 10. This is the first time im working with Linux, I have no idea about Linux OS. My problem is when i playmusic in real player 10 or rhythm box, the sound switches On and Off. F10 detects my sound card, I believe there must be some settings that needs to be corrected, My sound card is inbuilt in motherboard(Intel).
I ran Alsamixer and alsactl store as root. Volume is at 100th level and it not mute. Still the same, sound switches On and Off. Should i change anything in the settings of volume control? i have choosen Device as HDA Intel(Alsa Mixer), is that correct??I ran Alsamixer and alsactl store as root. Volume is at 100th level and it not mute. Still the same, sound switches On and Off. Should i change anything in the settings of volume control? i have choosen Device as HDA Intel(Alsa Mixer), is that correct??
Please help me.!!!.Thanks in advance.

First thing I'd ask is whether you also get this problem with other music players - eg Banshee.
Second, did it work in the Fedora LiveCD?
Third, if you try a liveCD from Ubuntu, Mandriva, etc do you still have the problem?
And here's what I would recc:
1) If it works in Banshee - submit a bug to Rhythmbox and you're ok
2) If it worked in the Fedora LiveCD, then we need to find out what's different between the two.
3) If it works correctly with Ubuntu, Mandriva or another distro - just use them. Unless you have a compelling reason to stay with Fedora, just switch. As you can see from my user info, I use a bunch of different distros. They all have the same programs. There are some differences in how they update or handle configurations, but Fedora doesn't have anything special in that department. It's not that their config programs stink, but the others are just better - especially Mandriva.
If it doesn't work for ANY distro.... perhaps there's something unique about your sound hardware. Google around and see. If you can stick around with crappy sound - wait a few months and see if a new kernel release fixes things. I know that twice for me a new kernel release has fixed sound problems.
Hope that's helpful. Come back and let us know what did and didn't work so others can learn.
