Sound Recording Stuff
Hi,
First of all, is there a way of recording sound in RH8 with KDE desktop without installing anything more than what comes on the disks because i can't find anything like it. If not, i need a really easy to install sound recorder, preferably multitrack but thats not totally necessary. It would be nice if it was an RPM with nothing else that i needed to do to it, because im still a total linux n00b but need to get back to recording guitar lines! :) Thanks J |
Check out ardour:

Audacity is a cool prog....multitrack and all

hi,
for simple recording tasks, i use qarecord or krecord. both programs should be bundled somewhere with your distro. neither are multi-track, but you could use them to at least get sound onto your hard drive, then use something like Audacity to create a multi-track session or whatever (er, i'm not a musician!) |
hi, thanks for that bit of info but i dont seem to have either of the installed with my distro (RH8), i.e. i try running krecord and qarecord from the command line and nothing happens. If there is a specific path i need to navigate to first then let me know.
Thanks J |
hi,
if the programs are installed, then they should be available from the command line, assuming that the programs are installed in sensible places (ie, within the scope of your path variable). it looks like they're missing. if you've got the original red hat cd's, have a look and see if they're there. if not, a bit of googling should turn up some rpm's that you can install - i don't think that the packages should be too demanding, so it should be a fairly easy install. |
