Sound problem

First off, let me say thank you for all the information on this site. I have managed to resolve a large number of my issues as a new linux user.

I have gotten every thing working so far, but contine to have some sound issues. Origonaly I was getting sound in Xwindows apps such as XMMS but not in dvd (xine) or any 3d apps.
after browsing through this site, I decided to try an update ALSA on my RH9 system. so I downloaded and installed ASLA 0.9.6, which seems to have fixed xine and I also get sound now in Neverwinter nights. Unfortunatly now Enemy Territoy seems to lock during sound init without any sort of an error, so I am kind of at a loss as to where to look, or even what to look for.
So far I have reinstalled ET, including deleting and redownloading and reinstalling. I find it odd, as at least ET would load prior to the ASLA update, I could even play online . . . although I was role playing a deaf soldier :D

All I seem to get is:

I'm having the same problem! I have a audigy 2 that works fine under the kde, but I start the et, it hangs in the sound init. If u find some solution, tell me about it!

Distribution: mandrake 9.1

OK! I've already played et in linux! WEEE! But a small problem... NO SOUND!

First things first.

I had the problem above... i.e. the process hanged in the sound init.

I searched this forum for many solutions and finally someone gave me a ideia. Kill all sound! Thats What id did. I killed arts (in kde it's what i have) but strange enough, there wasn't any arts process running (But I had sound in kde). Next, I started alsa (with this command ./etc/init.d/alsa start), put all the volume into the maximum of the max and started the et! LOVELY! I saw the et intro! Problem... no sound! I exit the game and saw what was happened. I loads everything ok, but there is a line where it says "sound is mute". I think the must a place where I can unmute the sound... (No, I have already run alsamixer and all sounds are at MAX!). In KDE when I put a mp3 playing and the sound system into max I can hear very low the mp3 (almost nothing). Now Can anyone help me?

Thx

My system for this...
