Sound: "play command" terminal gone?
Hi people,
I have a little problem here, i use programs that make the use of the play commmand in the terminal. But i have Suse 9.0 and there actually is no play command. I think i miss a program that has such a command in the console. Someone knows which program i need to install? thx, EyeWiTTneSS |
You need Sox :) http://www.spies.com/Sox/

Sox is also available as a bundled package with SuSE9.0, if you'd prefer the RPM.

Damn sorry, i have another problem here, now i sometimes here a sound... ( i use aMsn) and when i now want to use xmms at the same time it doesn't play any sounds.
That means my progs can't use sounds at the same time... in windows i can play music and use msn sounds at the same time... someone knows how to fix this? thx, EyeWiTTneSS Suse 9.0 SB128Pci |
Can't be done, Linux doesn't permit multiple audio streams simultaneously. It's quality of sound that matters here, not the mixing of streams. Still, it would make a nice additional function to ALSA.

Ok, i just needed 5.1 sound. so i went over to my onboard ac97 soundcard. It has a via chipset onboard.
I got the card working, although xmms plays music (plugin: alsa 1.2.8), but when i try to go to configuration panel, and test my sound it doens't work, also when kde starts it doesn't ring any sound.... btw i think artsd isnt running but another driver called alsa? or something? when i do: Mike@linux:~> artsd ALSA lib pcm_hw.c:1055:(snd_pcm_hw_open) open /dev/snd/pcmC0D0p failed: Device or resource busy Error while initializing the sound driver: device: default can't be opened for playback (Device or resource busy) someone knows how to fix this? thx, EyeWiTTneSS |
