Sound Issue
Not too sure if anyone else has experienced this problem, but here is the trouble I am having. The machine in question is an AMD 2000 XP processor with a Soyo ST-KT880 Dragon Motherboard, SATA 150, 160GB Seagate HDD, DVD+&- RW, and several different Linux O/S's. When running Mandrake Linux 10.1 the system freezes when ever I attempt to use the onboard soundcard which is a C-Media 8330 I believe, not too sure on the specific chipset number. When running Slackware 10.0 with a custom 2.6.10 kernel the sound does not work at all, even when I enable all the ALSA sound drivers included in the kernel. These problems exist when the O/S's in question are installed on the 2nd SATA Seagate drive, or the first, and when running inside VMWare. I know the problem has nothing to do with the harddrives or the SATA controller because I have tried different SATA HDD's and even several different UATA HDD's. Could this issue be caused by the sound card's IRQ being shared with the NIC and USB, or is it simply just the integrated sound card itself. I do not have another sound card to try at the moment if that is the case. Any idea's on how I can fix this problem.
