Sound driver for a VT82C686 AC97 Audio

I have a (MSI) MS-6378 Motherboard, that has an Apollo KLE133 VIA chipset. I have a VT82C686 AC97 Audio Controller. I am working with a Debian distribution: 2.4.24. My sound right now is very choppy (chirping and incomprehendible).
I found a VIA site, but it doesn't support my distribution; only SuSE 8.2, RedHat 9.0, Mandrake 9.1, and Red Flag 4.0.
The computer came with a driver's disc, but it is designed for Windows, which is not on the system (only Linux). If I mounted that disk, would I be able to copy the driver into Linux?

Please do not post the same thread in more than one forum. Picking the most relevant forum and posting it once there makes it easier for other members to help you and keeps the discussion all in one place.
