Sound disappeared from Skype
Hello
Made a fresh Linux Mint 17 install to my laptop Acer TravelMate 5320, even installed Skype. Lost the sound (picture works OK), but microfone, speaker and ringing have no other option than "Virtual Device", no test sound, no test call sound whatsoever. Just found out that Skype on my desktop computer has the same problem. Help, anyone?

I have read that the latest Skype (4.3?) needs Pulseaudio installed...

Got it solved on my laptop (64 bit) by installing ia32-libs (Pulseaudio was installed), but the issue is still present on the desktop computer (32 bit) regardless of having Pulseaudio. (????)

FYI!
I completely removed PulseAudio from my desktop computer, and lo and behold, Iḿ back to business again. Works like a charm. Don't know if this is the proper way of solving this problem, but it has helped me before and did it again, so at least I am happy!

I had a similar problem with Skype and got it sorted by using this command in the desktop shortcut:
Code:
PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 skype %U
jdk

It's already marked as Resolved, but maybe interesting:
Instead installing the giant PulseAudio, use apulse, a clean PulseAudio emulation for ALSA, from https://github.com/i-rinat/apulse
Works like a charm on all my Slackware installations and with different instances:
Code:
$ apulse /usr/bin/skype [--dpath=~/.Skype] &
