sound device for GTick

I've just installed GTick, a metronome application, (didn't find its forum, probably not supported), and it does not work - gives the error:
Couldn't start metronome.
Please check if specified sound device
and sample file are accessible.

It simply looks for the files at: /dev/dsp
I'm using Ubuntu 9.* and no such directory exists.
Where are this files located ???

Thanks in advance
Gil

Its homepage stated, "It utilizes GTK+ and OSS (ALSA compatible)." So I thought maybe alsa-oss would help. The mailing list they have also seemed to indicate that it was an OSS application (see this link). The mailing list might be a good resource for you.

I installed it on my Debian Lenny box without an issue, so the program can work.
