output is alsa? i said what is the output of lsmod?
so your sound drivers are loaded fine, you ran alsamixer and unmuted all controls and turned up them all, and ran 'alsactl store'.. and the sound still isnt working?

Welcome to LQ. To get the output of lsmod, start a terminal session then run the following command
Code:
lsmod
The command will simply list the kernel modules that are running, which is useful to know because sometimes the problem may simply be caused by a missing module, and to get sound to work, you would just need to load it.

did you change over to root when you typed the command in? You need to be in root for it to work. To get to root type "su" than your root password.

[jim@localhost ~]$ lsmod
bash: lsmod: command not found
[jim@localhost ~]$ su
Password:
[root@localhost jim]# lsmod

In the example above I purposely did lsmod before logging into root to show the difference, but did not copy everything over just the commands for you.

hi

here is the catch

[rahul@localhost rahul]$ lsmod
bash: lsmod: command not found
[rahul@localhost rahul]$ su
Password:
[root@localhost rahul]# lsmod
bash: lsmod: command not found
[root@localhost rahul]# exit
[rahul@localhost rahul]$ su -
Password:
[root@localhost root]# lsmod
Module Size Used by Not tainted
nls_iso8859-1 3520 1 (autoclean)
smbfs 43552 1 (autoclean)
cpuid 2112 0 (autoclean)
......

try to use "su -" and not "su" the difference is that in "su" the environment settings a not changed ( i mean the bashrc scripts and other scripts).

After you logged in to root, try lsmod and check the module for the sound card.
