I don't have a sony vaio utility disk.
However; I do have the original 5 disk's that Sony set me to re-install Windows if I want to.

I removed Windows from my Vaio aboout 4 years ago.

Thank you for the links.

The keyboard now lights up

Using nano I created a configuration file that I didn't have.
Code:
/etc/modeprobe.d/sony-laptop.conf
I put this string in the new file:-
Code:
options sony laptop kbd_backlight=2
(2 is for the backlight to stay on for 60 seconds, 3 is unlimited)

After creating that config file I ran this cmd as 'root' and the backlight came on.
Code:
echo 1 > /sys/devices/platform/sony-laptop/kbd_backlight
Thanks again knudfl-
I found the answers in the links you you posted.

Each time that the Vaio boots up I have to run that cmd for the backlight to turn on. I'm just glad it works.

Making that permanent is a project for another day.
