Sony DCR-HC30 and Ubuntu
Hello,
New Ubuntu user since 10.04 and having a good time learning command line usage. Have everything working except my handy-cam. I am trying to download from the camera using fire-wire and Ubuntu 10.10. Seems the camera is not recognized. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Wally |
Welcome to LinuxQuestions.
I will have your thread moved to a more appropriate forum. To download video via firewire look into kino and dvgrab. Make sure the correct firewire modules are being loaded. http://www.kinodv.org/ |
As per michaelk's post, moved to Linux-Software

BusterBrown,
No answers for 2 weeks, do you have more details? Some suggestions:

Hi, Thanks for the follow up on this posting. I have tried all the suggestions listed and all info I could find on google search. I am able to use Windows for now and will try again later to solve this problem.
Thanks, BusterBrown |
That answers my questions 3 & 4, what about 1, 2, & 5? BTW, I deliberately numbered them so that you could number your answers w/o having to retype the question.
Also, sometimes posting your Google search terms is helpful. 6. Did you use regular Google or Google Linux? |
1. Command line usage was to obtain information about the connection.
2. link to camera http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-camc...-30671365.html 5. Per uname -r, I am using kernel 2.6.35-28-generic 6. I have tried both searches. The computer is a Compaq 3045 and lspci shows my IEEE 1394 to be a SiS firewire controller. This camera and cable work fine with Windows XP so, it's not a connector or cable issue. This is not a high priority with me right now but, would like to get it working someday as I hate windows after using Ubuntu... |
