Something with Thunderbird

hi
im using slackware linux current version (kernel 2.6.16.20)
i have installed kde 3.5 with latest mozilla thunderbird for linux version 1.5.0.5 (20060719). When i get new messages there is no alert displayed like in windows (in bottom right corner shows message that new mail has arrived). In linux there is no such thing... what can i do? im using thunderbird on work and i dont have time to look at my mail box if there is some new stuff...
there should be some way to fix this problem... in thunderbird's preferences in tab general i have both show an alert and play sound checked (ofcourse when new message arrive).
any ideas?
thx

That looks great, I'll give it a whirl!

This has always been an issue with Thunderbird for Linux, however there has now been a patch committed to the Thunderbird 2.0 development build.
