Some sort of cache->open() Problem...

Bascially, I can't remove any porgrams from my Linux (Ubuntu) because whenever I try I get this message:

E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

Same thing happens when I try and use the update manager.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried other tools such as apt-get remove <filename> or Synaptic?

Emerson 02-18-2008 04:15 PM

dpkg --configure -a

Did you run this command?

To that I got this:

Quote:

E: Could not open lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (13 Permission denied)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), are you root?

dpkg: requested operation requires superuser privilege
Don't mean to sound difficult at all. The help is still appreciated. Anymore? :/
