some general problems

Hi all,
I am a fedora 2 user and i m having some problems with some of the softwares i insatlled on my linux box .........
i will be glad if u can help me here

1)i recently compiled mplayer from the source code ,during compilation it gave an error message that i dont have two lib. dependencies (i think png and png lib) for the GUI support so i compiled it without the --gui option
the compilation went without any problems ,then when i played a video clip using mplayer ,the mplayer starts running in the shell and then the "computer crashes" .This has been repeating since then ,and i can't figure out why....

2)earlier my xmms worked perfectly then suddenly the sound was gone .It still plays the songs but without any sound

NOTE:there is no problem with my soundcard detection as i can still hear the sounds (of alerts from yahoo messenger)

3)my last problem is with yahoo messenger ,it has stopped showing me which of mine friend are online (earlier no problem)

pls help me with ....

thanx a lot....

Hi,

1) It would be quite useful if you could post the exact mplayer error message

2) Are you sure you've selected the correct output sound driver? (OSS/ALSA as the case may be)

3) I've heard of this problem before, not sure what causes/solves it.
I suggest you move to gaim (http://gaim.sf.net). Yahoo! messenger is not quite stable yet, and has a very lacking feature set.

Hi again
the second problem have been solved and for the third problem i will try your suggestion
now for the first one
after uninstalling mplayer i compiled the source code for mplayer again ,again it gane an error message during ./configure step that libpng dev and libpng dependencies are required
then when i installed the required rpm packages they gave an error message that the libraries aldready exist then i instaled them with --force option and still it gave same error in configure step so i again compiled it without the gui option the compilation went without trouble but still the computer crashes on playing mplayer

about ur question about exact messages ,well the computer crashes so i cant see any

thanx anyway for ur help
