Some application Recommendations

Hi guys

I'm looking for some applications that people can recommend, I've found lots on synaptic but looking for the ones that people can vouch on for being good

I'm looking for something similar to dreamweaver for website creation, a visual tool rather than purely doing it in notepad

A photo gallery application, I really like the new windows photo gallery on vista, too bad they dont have a linux version of that :P

A video editing tool that provides the same features as Sony vegas or Adobe premiere

I look forward to hearing some advice

Regards

For website design, take a look at NVU, Quanta and BlueFish. For photo management, take a look at F-spot and digikam.

For photo gallery, there is also Picasa. It has its quirks, and is not native Linux code (runs on WINE), but it has some nice features. I REALLY like the red-eye tool.

My gold standard was ACDSee, but it would not run on WINE when I tried it (some years ago)

A non-linear video editing program that is equal or better to Adobe Premiere is Cinelerra CVS. It has not won last year's award because people have not tried it. Cinelerra CVS is a lot better than Adobe Premiere and it keeps the videos at high quality when possible. It does take the whole computer during rendering to the final video. Just like any program, you have to learn its tricks to do certain jobs.

I have not found a Dreamweaver replacement. Nvu, Quanta, Bluefish always lack in this area. Use a PHP script and include CSS to help you create a template for all your web pages. Though, there is KompoZer. I found it on osalt.com.

There are a bunch of photo album programs in Linux. Probably you might like Plone or MythTV Photo Gallery. Google does have a Linux port for Picasa and think it is beta since Gentoo developers have masked it. I have not mess around with any photo albums in any OS. I just use the icon view in file managers to find the photos that I am looking for.
