some alternate program recommendations

id like some recommendations for alternates to a few common programs
1. file sharing, gtk -gnutella isn't working for me, it's buggy as hell. what does everyone normally use because i cant believe that's the best fs util for linux.
2. can anyone tell me what the name is of the mp3 program that comes default with slackware, it starts with a g. i dont like xmms because it skipps far too often. the g one worked well for me but i cant remember the name to install it.
3. a gui based print utility like kdeprint that doesnt use kde or gnome, i dont want to install those wm's.

1 - see the other thread on filesharing in this forum

2 - amp is supposed to be pretty good - that's a cli app from what I understand though. I have never used it. Xmms works great for me.

3 - don't know, sorry

For file sharing I would recommend soulseek (slsk), it does require wxPython in addition to python.

Hi, I'm having a problem with pyslsk (soulseek). it seems to be installed properly, I'm not getting any errors, and the window comes up...there's nothing in the window and it won't connect? Do I need java to use it (in that case I won't be using it cause I can't get jre to work for me?!?!) if you guys can help I'd really appriciate it thanx.

I really wouldn't go jumping to conclusions like that without any real reason, chacnes are it's actually the sound server you are outputing to, e.g. arts, and not xmms itself. the program itself can't skip if it is being given correctly formatted media files.
