Software to run bad sector scan???

What software will run a bad sector scan on a suspicious drive? I tried with suse rescue system, kurumin linux (knoppix-like), and sysrescue.

Fdisk had not option to scan bad sectors, neither did qtparted.

Will I loose data when scaning bad sectors?

Help?

My 2 cents -- you don't want to have to have concerns in the back of your mind about questionable drives - they should just work, period. If a drive starts acting strange, my experience is that it is warning you that it's going to fail. Backup your data, replace the drive, problem solved. Again, just my opinion -- J.W.

Yes, JW, I agree. The problem is that I needed to test this drive for a friend. I had no idea what the problem was, and since it booted perfectly, I decided to run a surface scan, just for the sake of it.
The drive was ok, in the end.
