Software to record video???

I have a tv capture card (bttv) and I want to record from it. Tried to install freevo, pvr and ffmpeg on my suse 9.1, but maaaannn... these packages only gave me trouble.
Could someone here install any of these packages or another video recorder on suse 9.1? Can you video gurus point me to good resources on the web?

Thanks!

I've never done any video capturing, but I believe Kino, Cinelerra and mplayer can do it.
