Software to print labels for CDs/DVDs?

Can anyone suggest some software that I might use to print CD/DVD labels? I've googled around but I can't see anything obvious.

Thanks in advance.

CD label printing is an area Linux is really lacking in at the moment. All I could find myself were some very simple labelmakers that just can't handle lots of graphic manipulation.

The only real options seem to be OpenOffice, which has a label making facility (mostly for paper-sheet labels though), and the GIMP, which is good for graphic work but takes time to learn properly. I like GIMP because it can print directly to CD with the gutenprint plugin, but it doesn't have any advanced text manipulation tools for fancy fonts or curved titles. I'm thinking now that I might be able to use OO.o for creating the text, then importing that to GIMP for final positioning. I haven't done much testing with it though, so I don't know how well it will work out.

All I'm really looking for is something to be able to print onto self-adhesive sheets of CD labels (I don't have capability to print directly onto CDs yet), but I thought OpenOffice was more geared towards square/rectangular labels rather than round ones. I guess I'll give it a go in OO.o and/or Gimp and see what they can do.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Can't you just make a template? (work out the spacing, the dia of the label etc. do a few tests, overlay on your labels, see if they line up.)

Then you can do whatever graphics you want in OO and just print, the system and printer have no clue what paper you are printing on, it just prints what it sees.

I've seen OO.o templates for cd labels before. They're somewhere on the net. I'm not sure if they'll cover the label sheets you want to use though. You may have to tweak them or make your own, as mentioned above.

I have used the OpenOffice templates to print sheets of sticky labels. I works for me. :)

Hi there,

You should take a look at the lightscribe software i believe that works really well. You don't really want to be printing labels and sticking them onto the disc as sometimes it does make the disc skip and you will be constantly re-sticking it down as when the disc gets hot the label will start peeling off. I have been looking into CD/DVD label printing myself, but i don't think i have the time for it as i don't even have the time to print my address labels out i have a british labels company print them for me instead.
