software to filter obscene content

I am setting up a system for a family, who wants to have strict rules for children when they are surfing the internet. I will be using hosts.block a lot, but I looking for a program that censors obscene and other unwanted web content.

I found censornet, but I am wondering if there are any alternatives?

Dansguardian works very well for me. It needs the Squid proxy. You install fist squid and point your browser to use it (or alter iptables rules to have all web connections go through it). Dansguardian comes as an extra layer on squid to do the actual filtering.

I want to make sure the kids won't change it back, so I would need to have all the configuration with root privileges.

How do you change the browser or iptables? Does Dansguardian have comprehensive documentation?

Thank you very much,
