Software Sections/Grouping

Is there a way to get the software group names instead of the package listing using dpkg/rpm etc? I am looking for getting the information like how it is showing in Add/Remove section in linux like, Office, Accessories, System Tools etc, instead of getting the individual package list.

I'm not in front of my debian box, but I think apt-cache show packagename or aptitude show packagename will give you a "section". I don't know if that's the same as the Add/Remove section or some other keyword.

Yes, it gives like "libs", "devel", "x11" etc. I am looking at more descriptive meaningful names like it is shown in Add/Remove programs.
