software replacements

I am planning on moving to Linux and need to find certain replacements for my windows software, if you could just list some Linux software that does the same thing as any of the ones mentioned below. And it doesn't matter if it is open source or proprietary. If it doesn't exist for Linux than just say so.

cd-dvd burning (like Nero)
C++ compilers
Encryption
Secure deletion
Spy-ware protection (similar to spy-bot search and destroy)
Hard disk partitioning (like Partition Magic)
DVD player software
Anti-virus

Thanks in advance.

c++ compilers - gcc of course!!! unless you are talking about IDEs
DVD player - xine, mplayer .... lotsa them
antivirus - clamav -- not very useful though.

You haven't even skimmed this board or read the stickies have you

C++ compilers
Nope, you definitely haven't read anything on this board or any other when it comes to Linux. Well then!

Nero: K3b, xcdroast
C++ Compilers: G++, others
C++ IDE: there are MANY to choose from - too numerous to list here so I'll mention two: anjuta and kdevelop

Encryption
You name it, Linux has it. pgp is tops though!

Secure deletion
Actually, "rm" alone on some filesystems is secure. otherwise you could "dd" over the sectors. To be sure though, use "shred"

Spy-ware protection (similar to spy-bot search and destroy)
Why? Spyware targets MSIE on Windows. So far spyware removal is totally unnecessary on *nix and would be a waste of disk space.

Hard disk partitioning (like Partition Magic)
fdisk, qparted, parted

DVD player software
Again, too numerous to list so I will mention two of the top contenders: mplayer and xine

Anti-virus
There are what - six viruses or so that target Linux and those exploits are for the most part nonexistent? Unnecessary. If you're referring to email antivirus, there's avgate and tons of others.

Thanks in advance. [/B][/QUOTE]

Try searching - you will find many, many references to what you're asking. I didn't even mar the surface above, let alone even scratch it. :)
