I'm going to use software RAID-1 on my two Sata disks. I want to setup RAID then encrypt it using LUKS. My question is will it be possible in case of emergency take out one of the disks and use LUKS encrypting on it ? Will I get data from it ? I mean in case if my computer or systems gets damaged and it will be no dmraid setup. Will these disks work as separate ecrypted disk ?
That's the whole point of a RAID system, data security in case of disk failure. If the RAID is configured properly and you can boot of both disks I see no reason why it would not work.
Hope this helps. If in doubt, try it on a vm first
Thanks for reply. I was affraid about that LUKS encryption will be applied to RAID array, not to single disk. So I'm not sure about encrypted disks. If disk are not encryted then yes, I know that there will be no problems. But encryption..... I'm affraid of it.
