Software hell; does linux have decent hex editors? (moving file to Win to edit suks)

Basically im working with files 8+ gb and linux hex editors seem to fail at accomplishing a simple task... Here are the results:

bless (temp dir bug, and I dont want temp files b/c im working with 8+ gig files)
ghex (fails to open large files)
oketa (fails to open large files)
hex edit (crashes with large files)

It really really sucks having to move a huge file into windows partition than log into windows hexedit it....... ohhhhhh the harsh rugged life of living in linux

Master*;

I see a recurring theme---is it possible that there's an issue with memory, swap, etc.?

I just created an 8G file and hexedit seems to have no trouble with it.

EDIT---but then FF crashed.....coincidence?

Found a real one, and added
deb http://archive.getdeb.net/ubuntu/ precise-getdeb apps
to my apt-get thing and it worked ok. (says its made for large files)

I hate how most linux apps look like windows 98 though
